Orlando Pirates have confirmed the appointment of former Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids as their new assistant to coach Milutin Sredojevic.
The Buccaneers wasted no time in swooping in for the 37-year-old coach and adding him to their technical team following his sacking by the Team of Choice three weeks ago.
Davids will now replace Benson Mhlongo and work alongside head coach Sredojevic and assistant Rhulani Mokwena.
The club released the following statement on the matter, which reads:
‘Orlando Pirates Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Fadlu Davids to the technical team.’
‘After going five months without filling the vacancy left by Benson Mhlongo, the club is pleased to have a coach of Davids’ calibre joining the organisation as assistant coach.
‘The 37-year-old is no stranger to the local scene, having already served as head coach of Maritzburg United. He bolsters a technical team that already boasts two very knowledgeable individuals in Milutin Sredojević and Rhulani Mokwena.’
Speaking on his appointment, club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Davids to Orlando Pirates.’
‘What was gratifying when I introduced the coach to the technical team there was an instant cordiality and rapport between them.
‘It is also quite exciting to have two emerging talents in Rhulani and Fadlu complementing each other.’
The Cape Town-born coach will officially commence his duties from Tuesday 15 January 2019.
