Orlando Pirates’ transfer target Fortune Makaringe has confirmed that he will be leaving Maritzburg United after helping the club remain in the Absa Premiership.

The midfielder has been one of the stars of the 2018-19 campaign, as his late form in the Absa Premiership helped the Team of Choice claw their way off the bottom of the log and into a playoff spot.

He again became one of the key men as Eric Tinkler’s squad became the first team to win all four promotion playoff games since the inception of the rule.

After Maritzburg’s 2-1 victory over Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday, Makaringe admitted that he will depart the club.

‘Yes, it was goodbye for me. The chairman [Farook Kadodia] tells us he will always allow us to grow as footballers. It’s very emotional for me because this team took me from nowhere,’ Makaringe told SuperSport TV.

‘I came from Moroka Swallows MDC team and grew in this team. I’m even in the Bafana Bafana Afcon squad because of Maritzburg United. I will always cherish every moment I had with the club. Even 10 years from now I will always remember this team.’

Makaringe will be hoping to make Bafana’s final Afcon squad, and is currently in camp looking to impress head coach Stuart Baxter.
