Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has defended goalkeeper Denis Onyango after his costly error on Sunday.
The Ugandan shotstopper spilled Danny Phiri’s tame effort into his own net to hand Golden Arrows the equaliser in the second half.
Onyango’s blunder proved costly as Arrows went on to win the game 3-2 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
However, Mosimane backs Onyango and hopes his No 1 goalkeeper can return to top form.
‘We know how we lost, to be honest,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘I hope Denis mentally can recover from that because normally the bounce should be in front of the goalkeeper, but because of the conditions the bounce couldn’t favour him.
‘If you remember and follow our team there’s always a mistake he commits once a year, but how many times does he save us?
‘He’s No 1 in Africa, he’s been No 1 one for the last three to four years. No 1 can still make mistakes.
‘We’ve seen goalkeepers make mistakes, so we need to budget for that and he will come and help us again. We won’t be emotional with Denis.’
