Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has implored his fans to throw their support behind Orlando Pirates this weekend as the Buccaneers take on Kaizer Chiefs in a Soweto derby which will have huge ramifications for the title race.
Mosimane’s team currently sits second on the Absa Premiership log, four points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs and two points ahead of third-placed Pirates with just 10 games remaining in the season.
The Brazilians, though, do have a game in hand on the Sea Robbers and will thus be hoping that Pirates can add extra pressure on Amakhosi heading into the final weeks of the season.
Speaking after his side’s Nedbank Cup victory coach, Pitso admitted that a loss for the Glamour Boys would make things more interesting.
‘Obviously if you want the league to be exciting, you don’t wish them [Kaizer Chiefs] to win on Saturday,’ Pitso told the media.
‘When we played [Bloemfontein] Celtic, did you see the Chiefs fans at Loftus? They came in numbers [to support Celtic]. When we played Chippa [United], they came in big numbers,’ he added.
‘Probably Masandawana must go and join the Buccaneers there [at Soccer City].’
Despite having an obvious interest in the Soweto derby this weekend, Pitso and his team will solely be focused on their own task at hand as they face Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the first leg of their Caf Champions League quarter-final just a few hours after the clash at FNB Stadium.
