Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed that he is considering taking a sabbatical from football, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
After the Brazilians wrapped up the league title against Ajax Cape Town two weeks ago Mosimane revealed that he is starting to feel the toll of the heavy schedule on Sundowns, which could force him to take a sabbatical.
When asked on Wednesday at the Absa Premiership monthly awards press conference if those comments were an emotional response or if he seriously is considering taking a break Mosimane said: ‘There are genuine thoughts [about taking a break], I still feel like that even now.
‘When the league is wrapped up and you should let your hair down, but it’s not like this. Firstly, it’s important, the yellow nation is coming to Bloemfontein and you know that they won’t take anything else but a win. So, we have to respect that and try and win the match.
‘Then we have the Champions League, which cut short our celebration because you have to go back to work.’
‘It hasn’t stopped for five years. It has been hectic, every three days and it has been really intensive preparations for games. It has been no offseason for the players for four years, its worse for us because you need to prepare because post-season is as hectic as pre-season. You have to make sure that when you come back everything is wrapped up, which players are coming back, what dates, which players do you think want to move on, which player you think should bring in.
‘It’s really hectic especially at Mamelodi Sundowns, a very, very ambitious club, that you have to win all the time.
‘I feel like that [wanting to take a break] I still feel like that and I want to take a break. It’s the way I feel, we will see with time, its just a thought but we will see with time how I feel.
‘Probably after the break, I will feel different, but at this point in time, it is hectic. We are the last ones to finish, in the PSL in this country, and we are the first ones to start again. So, what a life, really we are not machines we are human beings. Your mind is going all the time and sometimes it is not your body but your mind,’ concluded Pitso.
The newly crowned champions will receive their trophy after their last game of the season against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium, with kickoff at 3pm.
