Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane would love to see midfielder Gaston Sirino play for Bafana Bafana.
The 28-year-old is yet to play for the Uruguayan national team and Mosimane is eager to see Sirino take up South African citizenship.
The South African Football Association (Safa) has already convinced the likes of Lars Veldwijk, Joel Untersee and Nikola Tavares to join the South African national team in recent years.
However, Veldwijk is the only one of the three to have featured for Bafana Bafana and was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Mosimane has since urged the national team selectors to absorb Sirino into the national team set-up as he qualifies to play for Molefi Ntseki’s side.
‘I would love to see him play for South Africa, why not? Because he is probably not going to take Luis Suarez out of the [Uruguay] national team, so he can help us,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘We have seen the whole French national team is full of African players because of French colonisation.’
Sirino has been one of Mamelodi Sundowns standout performers so far this season and has already managed to bagged 10 goals and six assists from 26 appearances across all competitions.
