Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists Phakamani Mahlambi is still developing and was not brought in to win the Absa Premiership title.
The 21-year-old recently left Al Ahly to join Sundowns in a lucrative five-year deal after struggling to get game time at the Egyptian giants.
The Johannesburg-born attacker made an impressive start to life at his new club after scoring on his debut during the Brazilian’s 3-3 draw with AmaZulu over the weekend.
Mosimane believes Mahlambi still has time to develop and improve his game before making the move abroad like Percy Tau, Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly.
‘He’s young, he’s 20, he has a lot to learn, I remember Percy at 20, we had to work hard, imagine Khama Billiat at 20, so we have to be patient, he will get there, we still have to teach him,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘Today he was losing balls, trying to back heel, he’s in KZN to show off a little bit and I must remind him [to] come out a little bit [in the] next match, he is a good boy, he is going to learn.’
He continued: ‘He’s got three years to be where Percy is, when Percy left for Europe he was 23, he’s 20, so he still has three more years to catch up to Percy.
‘Phaka is not supposed to win us the league, Phaka is a big investment for us, I think Phaka will be a return of investment like we get for Keagan, for Zungu, because Zungu was 20, Keagan was 20, I got Percy, younger, where are they now? So, the future is bright.’
