Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes that attacker Percy Tau should be playing in a higher league than the Belgian second division.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, and was recently voted Player of the Season following his debut campaign in the Belgian second division.

However, Tau has since returned to South Africa after linking up with Bafana Bafana as they continue their preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament in Egypt next month.

Mosimane insists that Tau is a top player and wants him to move to a tougher league to showcase his quality on a higher level, despite his success for the Belgian outfit so far this season.

‘For me, I am happy Percy went to Europe because he wanted to go to Europe and it’s important that he went to Europe to play football and prove that he can play in Europe, that is important to me and also to change his life and his family,’ Mosimane told the media.

‘Football is a game that changes our lives. Just look at me, if football was not there, life would have been different for me. I don’t know where I would be without football. So football has given me an opportunity to take my children to school and help the generation coming into my space, and so is Percy and I am happy that he went there.

‘He always wanted to go to Europe, but on the technical side I don’t know if that league would have made him a better player than playing Champions League over here, it’s debatable. In Belgium in that division there I’m not sure.

‘Percy is a Premier League player and I am not saying it was a step back, there are positives, but as I said on the tactical side it’s tougher here. The Absa Premiership is a tough league because we play against players from Europe who play for Wydad [Casablanca], Al Ahly and Esperance and you can see how it is.

‘I just wish Percy can go to England and they must give him a work permit, otherwise what is he doing there? Can’t he go to La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga? The boy is a top player.’
