Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was relieved to see Percy Tau and substitute Khama Billiat guide his side to a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City on Wednesday night.
The win, Sundowns’ first of the new campaign, came after Tau and Billiat scored second-half goals in a closely fought contest at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
‘I’m not sure it was a relief, but we needed the win to be honest,’ Mosimane told SuperSport.
‘We knew it was a question of time, we don’t press panic buttons too early.
‘But let me tell you, I will say it again, Polokwane City is a very, very good team. They play with proper organisation and the right tempo. They play football the proper way, they don’t play percentage football.
‘Many people play percentage football where you put the cross there, head in and you win. They play proper football, this is the way football must be played with the right tempo, intensity and good pressing. They have a good coach, hey.’
The Brazilians are playing catch up after their CAF Champions League campaign wreaked havoc with their PSL progress. Mosimane’s men have played just three matches with Wednesday’s win lifting them to four points, one more than bottom-placed Ajax Cape Town.
