A 94th-minute equaliser by Puleng Tlolane saw Polokwane City add to SuperSport United’s woes as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.
The encounter got off to a slow start with both sides looking to sniff out each other’s weaknesses in the opening exchanges.
Rise and Shine captain Jabulani Maluleke produced the first moment of magic when his defence-splitting pass found Rodney Ramagalela in space, but the forward’s effort was kept out by goalkeeper Riyaad Pieterse.
SuperSport looked dangerous on the wings with the pace of Aubrey Modiba and Thuso Phala causing the visitors’ defence a few scares. Modiba came close to opening matters in the 19th minute, but George Chigova made a fine save.
Eric Tinkler’s side finally broke the deadlock when Morgan Gould headed home Dean Furman’s enticing ball into the area on the half hour mark. SuperSport maintained their one-goal lead going into the half-time break.
The home side emerged with more of an attacking threat in the second half and should have doubled their lead, but somehow Gould and Phala managed to miss the target in quick succession.
There was not much goalmouth action to talk about in the remaining minutes of the encounter as SuperSport looked to consolidate their lead, however, the football gods were not with them as Puleng Tlolane snatched an equaliser in the referee’s added time to deepen Tinkler’s woes.
