Kaizer Chiefs’ seven-game unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership came to an end after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The game got off to a slow start with both sides trying to find their rhythm in the early stages.

Ryan Moon produced the first opportunity of the game after seven minutes, but the young striker directed his header over the target from close range.

Rise and Shine nearly took the lead in the 28th minute, but Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune rushed off his line to deal with the lethal Rodney Ramagalela, who was goal-bound.

Dumisani Zuma should have broken the deadlock two minutes later, but the wing saw his volley sail over the target.

The visitors eventually took the lead in stoppage time when Vusumuzi Mngomezulu found the back of the net with his curling effort from outside the box.

The Glamour Boys came out with intent in the second half and nearly took the lead three minutes in when Khama Billiat attempted an effort from a free kick, but could not produce enough power to threaten the City goal.

Giovanni Solinas opted to make a change after the 65th minute when he introduced Gustavo Paez to replace Moon in attack.

George Maluleka had a chance to level matters late in the second half, but the City keeper did well to deal with the midfielder’s effort at goal.

The home side pressed forward in search of an equalising goal in the closing stages of the game, but Polokwane held on to their lead until the final whistle to claim all three points at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
