Kaizer Chiefs will host Chippa United in the Absa Premiership when the two sides meet at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The much-anticipated encounter could be an entertaining clash between Amakhosi and the Chilli Boys.
Amakhosi suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Chippa the last time the two sides met in the league at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 6 December 2017, with Abel Mabaso scoring the decisive goal.
With five league fixtures remaining until the end of the season, Amakhosi are on a high following back-to-back wins in the Nedbank Cup and the Absa Premiership respectively.
The Glamour Boys managed to salvage a 1-0 victory over Free State Stars courtesy of a late goal by Teenage Hadebe at Goble Park on Wednesday.
Chiefs are currently third in the league standings with 39 points after 25 matches played.
Chiefs coach Steve Komphela said: ‘The most important thing at this stage of the league is the three points… three points are all that matters.
‘We are still in the chasing pack. I have said it before – we will remain focused until the final whistle of the season.’
Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys will be hoping to return to winning ways after a midweek 2-0 defeat to current log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chippa are currently 13th with 30 points, after claiming six wins and 12 draws from 25 matches.
Chippa coach Vladislav Heric said: ‘My football is attacking football, and aggressive defending, I never changed my philosophy.
‘I will need to look at the profile of the players we have and I believe this is the strongest squad Chippa United has assembled since the club’s inception.
‘I am willing to work with the technical team and everyone at the club to bring the best out of the players. I will be getting as much information before our next game.’
Amakhosi are still in the hunt for their first PSL title since 2014, while the Chilli Boys will be fighting to move clear of the relegation zone.
