Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, among other PSL clubs, have paid tribute to basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash at the age of 41.
The former LA Lakers star was flying over California when a fire started and caused the helicopter to spiral and crash, according to TMZ.
Reports suggest that nobody on board survived with all five passengers tragically dying in the accident, including his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.
Former point guard Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers between 1996 and 2016 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional basketball players of all time, winning five NBA Championships. He was also an 18-time NBA All-Star and was crowned NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2008.
Among his accolades, the former Lakers point guard has also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2018 as the executive producer of Dear Basketball. It was based on a letter Bryant wrote for the Players’ Tribune upon deciding to retire from the NBA following the 2015-16 season.
