Former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits winger Daine Klate has announced his retirement from professional football.
Klate made the announcement via his Twitter page on Tuesday morning as he steps away from football after 16 seasons in South Africa’s top flight.
The 34-year-old spent last season on the books of Chippa United and leaves the professional game having won a record six Absa Premiership titles with three different clubs.
His first taste of success came at SuperSport United where he broke through the ranks under Pitso Mosimane before becoming an integral part of Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United side, which won the Absa Premiership trophy three times in a row.

He then moved to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates where he made more history as part of the team which went on to win consecutive trebles.
Klate was then reunited with Hunt at Wits where he helped guide the Clever Boys to their first-ever Absa Premiership title.
The winger will undoubtedly be remembered by fans and fellow pros as one of the outstanding players of his generation alongside the likes of Teko Modise, who has also recently retired.
Klate will now take up a coaching role as Clinton Larsen’s second assistant at Chippa United, where he will also be in charge of the Multichoice Diski Challenge side.
