Mamelodi Sundowns could find themselves in hot water with the PSL prosecutor yet again, as Nande Becker has confirmed that he will look into possible charges after four Downs players deliberately picked up yellow cards last week against Bloemfontein Celtic.
The incident shocked many as Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Hlompho Kekana all got booked in quick succession while delaying a corner kick.
After the game coach Pitso Mosimane admitted that his players were looking to get booked against Bloemfontein Celtic to allow them to miss the Nedbank Cup match against VUT and not risk suspension for a bigger game.
This contravenes Fifa rules, which state that picking up a yellow card in order to be suspended for an upcoming match constitutes an offence and a player found guilty could be charged with one extra game’s suspension.
A video of the incident very quickly went viral on social media, which has undoubtedly narrowed the focus on the situation.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Becker said he is waiting on the reports from the match commissioner and referee before moving forward.
‘I have requested the match commissioner and referee’s report,’ said Becker.
‘I am waiting for it. I will look at it before deciding the next step.’
With Sundowns star man Sirino already facing charges of assault after slapping Clayton Daniels and Dean Furman of SuperSport United a few months ago, it would be unsurprising if the club was now charged with misconduct.
