Kaizer Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening in the DStv Premiership.
Chiefs welcomed back Yusuf Maart into the starting eleven following his suspension while new signings Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove were named on the bench.
The home side started on the front foot and after applying the early pressure they were handed a golden chance to open the scoring when Mbongeni Gumede handled a Kgaogelo Sekgota cross in the 31st minute leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.
Dillan Solomons stepped up for Amakhosi and despite scoring from the spot already this season, he dragged his spot-kick just wide of the bottom corner.
Chiefs continued to threaten with Siyethemba Sithebe failing to hit the target after being slipped through on goal before Khama Billiat was denied by goalkeeper Veli Mothwa, also with only the keeper to beat.
Both sides needed more intensity in the second half and Geroge Matlou almost provided that spark for Chiefs but he couldn’t control Billiat’s lofted pass with the goal gaping.
As the game progressed AmaZulu became happy with sitting deep in their shape and not allowing the home side any space.
Kgaogelo Sekgota almost snatched a late winner for Chiefs with four minutes left in the encounter but his cracking strike from range flashed narrowly wide as the sides were forced to share the spoils.
