Kaizer Chiefs came from behind three times to beat Bloemfontein Celtic 5-3 and maintain their 10-point lead at the summit of the league, while Orlando Pirates dropped more points after conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes against Baroka.

Friday:

SuperSport United 2-0 Highlands Park

Kaitano Tembo’s team continued their good run of form as they dispatched the Lions of the North in a tight game on Friday evening. Thabo Mnyamane opened the scoring for Matsatsantsa in the 19th minute before Bradley Grobler made sure of the three points with their second, with 19 minutes left to play.

Saturday:

Orlando Pirates 2-2 Baroka

Rhulani Mokwena came into Saturday’s early kick-off looking for a big three points and they looked well on their way when Linda Mntambo and Kabelo Dlamini netted for the Buccaneers either side of the break. Things, however, quickly changed when Happy Jele turned one past his own keeper with seven minutes left to play to set up a nervy finish. The Sea Robbers couldn’t hold on for the victory, though, as Gerald Phiri netted in stoppage time to earn a point for his side.

Black Leopards 0-0 AmaZulu

Both teams came into this encounter looking for three points as they aspire to climb the table. However, the match proved to be a tight affair with chances at a premium. When the openings did appear, both sets of keepers proved on top of their game with AmaZulu’s keeper Neil Boshoff winning the Man of the Match award.

Cape Town City 0-1 Chippa United

CT City were hoping to pick up their second win under Jan Olde Riekerink when they hosted fellow strugglers Chippa United on Saturday. The Chilli Boys managed to take the lead in the 22nd minute through Augustine Kwem and, try as they might, the Citizens could not break down the stubborn Chippa defence as they tasted their first home defeat under their new boss.

Kaizer Chiefs 5-3 Bleomfontein Celtic

Chiefs and Celtic played out to the most entertaining game of the round in their eight-goal thriller at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.

Celtic took an early lead through Ndumiso Mabena with 13 minutes played, only for Smair Nurkovic to equalise for the Glamour Boys in the 21st minute.

Parity didn’t last long as Phunya Sele Sele were back in front three minutes later, thanks to Harris Tchilimbou. Again Chiefs fought back quickly as Nurkovic bagged his brace to make it 2-2 in the 31st minute.

The first-half scoring was not done, though, as Celtic again hit the front as Siphelele Luthuli scored his side’s third in the 35th minute to ensure the Celtic took a narrow lead into the break.

After half time a different Chiefs side appeared as first Leonardo Castro levelled with a towering header from a corner in the 48th minute, and then Nurkovic wrapped up his hat-trick in the 61st minute as Amakhosi took the lead for the first time.

Castro then doubled his side’s lead with a carbon copy of his earlier goal as Chiefs maintained their lead at the top of the league with a 5-3 victory.

Sunday

Polokwane City 0-1 Maritzburg United

Polokwane City’s free fall continued on Sunday as they suffered their ninth loss in a row against Eric Tinkler’s charges on Sunday.

Yusuf Jappie’s 58th-minute goal proved enough to hand the Team of Choice all three points as Rise and Shine continue to plummet.
