Orlando Pirates were held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City at the Orlando Stadium, while Marumo Gallants claimed bragging rights in the Limpopo derby after thrashing Baroka 3-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Buccaneers got off to a bright start and had two chances to take the lead early on but Den Hotto and Bandile Shandu were unable to find the back of the net.
Pirates continued to press forward after 22 minutes of play as Thabang Monare floated a ball into the box, but Goodman Mosele was unable to make any contact with the inviting ball into the area.
The home side had a chance to take the lead just before the half-hour mark after Shandu fired a powerful effort at goal forcing Marques into making a low save to deny the right back.
Pirates failed to capitalise on some miscommunication among the City defenders as Dlamini won possession before setting up Monare, who fired his effort over the target.
Siyabonga Mpontshane was called into action late in the first half when he produced a good save to deny Fielies’s attempt at goal as the game went into the break at level peggings.
Pirates started the second half off brightly and nearly took the lead in the 47th minute but Hotto fired his effort straight into the side-netting.
Ndah came to his side’s rescue in the 57th minute when he made a perfectly timed tackle to thwart Thamsanqa Mkhize, who looked to be inches wide from giving City the lead.
Dlamini should have handed his side the lead in the 75th minute but fired his shot straight into the hands of goalkeeper Marques.
Dzvukamanja had his own chance to break the deadlock in the 82nd minute after he leapt the highest to meet a good cross into the area, but the ball only brushed up against him on its way to safety.
Both sides pressed forward in the closing stages as they went in search of the winning goal but neither could find the back of the net as the game ended goalless in Soweto.
