Themba Zwane of Mamelodi Sundowns celebrates his goal with teammates

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to the top of the DStv Premiership after Orlando Pirates briefly reached the summit but ended the day in second place.

Orlando Pirates 2-0 TS Galaxy

Pirates got off to a fast start as they looked to bounce back from their defeat against Maritzburg United last time out as they took the lead with just six minutes gone with Lepasa’s deflected shot leaving Melusi Buthelez with no chance.

Lepasa was causing all sorts of problems and after almost doubling his tally with an inventive back-heel on the half-hour mark, he eventually secured his brace with a chip over the onrushing Galaxy keeper with 8 minutes left in the first half.

Pirates had to weather a storm at the start of the second stanza and then had some chances to put the game completely to bed but in the end they controlled the closing stages and walked away with a comfortable victory.

Golden Arrows 1-2 Mamelodi Sundowns

Sundowns were patient from the onset as they kept possession of the ball, looking to create openings. With the first chance of note coming 30 minutes in as Peter Shalulie poked wide Themba Zwane’s cross.

The Brazilians were then gifted the chance to grab the opener as Gumede brought Shalulie down in the box and the referee awarded a spot kick. With just a minute before the interval Downs’ Namibian forward stepped up and buried the penalty.

The home side, however, responded well in the second half as
Pule Mmodi restored parity with a shot across goalkeeper Ronwen Williams which found the far bottom corner.

Arrows fought hard to get a point from the game with Ryan Moon coming close to an eqaliser in added time but Downs managed to hold on for the three points.
