TFGSoccerClub takes a look at the weekend’s results of Absa Premiership action, which saw Bidvest Wits move five points clear of Orlando Pirates at the top of the standings, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Friday:

Bidvest Wits 1-0 Maritzburg United

Bidvest Wits stretched their lead at the top of the league standings after claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United at the Bidvest Stadium, with Lehlohonolo Majoro scoring a late goal to hand his side all three points.

The wins sees Gavin Hunt’s side more than five points clear of Orlando Pirates at the top of the league table with 37 points after 19 games, while the Team of Choice extended their winless run to seven games, and currently sit at the foot of the table with 11 points after 19 games played so far this season.

Saturday:

Golden Arrows 2-1 Highlands Park

Danny Venter and Lerato Lamola got their names on the scoresheet to help Golden Arrows secure a 2-1 victory over Highlands Park at the Sugar Ray xulu Stadium in the only game on Saturday.

Abafana Bes’thende have now extended their unbeaten run to four games, and currently occupy ninth place on the table with 24 points after 19 games, while the Lions of the North trail them by two points in 10th place, and have now gone five league games without a win.

Free State Stars vs Polokwane City (Postponed)

Meanwhile, the league encounter between Free State Stars and Polokwane City was postponed due to Goble Park being waterlogged.

Sunday:

Baroka 1-1 Chippa United

A goal from Matome Mabeba and an own goal from Bonginkosi Makume saw Baroka play out to a 1-1 draw with Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Chilli Boys have now moved out of the relegation playoff zone and up to 14th place with 16 points, while Baroka remain 13th on the table a point above Chippa after 19 matches.

Bloemfontein Celtic 3-0 Black Leopards

Bloemfontein Celtic managed to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory over Black Leopards at the Dr Molemela Stadium, courtesy of goals from Ronald Pfumbidzai and a brace by Victor Letsoalo.

The wins sees Celtic move up to fifth place on the log with 28 points after 19 games, while the Leopards suffered their first defeat under Dylan Kerr, but have moved up to 12th place with 20 points from 18 games played thus far.
