Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele bemoaned his side’s lack of killer instinct upfront, following their 1-1 draw against SuperSport United in their Absa Premiership tie on Saturday night.

The Soweto giants looked to be heading away with maximum points after Siphiwe Tshabalala netted a brace either side of Mandla Masango’s strike in the first half. However, Aubrey Modiba struck late to give his side a share of the spoils and dent the title hopes of Steve Komphela’s side.

Mphahlele was awarded man-of-the-match for his performance against Matsatsantsa, but the former Mamelodi Sundowns captain insisted that his side should have put the game to bed with the amount of opportunities they had.

‘How many do you want? If you don’t put the chances inside, then this is what’s going to happen,’ he said in post-match comments.

‘We had clear-cut chances, chances that you just need to tap in the net, but we don’t take them and they got one stupid goal. We should have been three-four goals up, it’s been the story of our lives,’ he added.

Rama, as he is affectionately known, highlighted how his side lost concentration at a vital stage in the encounter, which also happened in the 3-2 loss against Cape Town City in their previous league tie.

‘It’s always the case, we play so well and then we lose concentration at a very critical time of the game, it’s very disappointing.

‘We could have bagged all three points, we lost concentration and we got punished for it. All the goals that we have been conceding are soft goals. We are a big team, we should be dealing much better with the situations,’ he concluded.
