Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena has revealed that he believes Percy Tau should win the Player of the Season award, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
The Pirates assistant coach was speaking at the announcement of the PSL Award nominees on Monday.
Rhulani was asked his thoughts on who the Player of the Year should be and he responded by saying, ‘I think the footballer of the season needs to be someone who has contributed immensely to the success of the team. I think part of the individual standing out should be in relation to the success of the collective.
‘I think if you start at home, with us at Orlando Pirates, I have been surprised that some of our players haven’t been mentioned in the mix.
‘Without trying to sound like a cheerleader, I think some of our players also deserve to be in and around the mix, not to say they deserve to win the award.
‘Players like Musa Nyatama has been exceptional, Innocent Maela has been exceptional and extremely consistent, contributing to 65% of the goals we have scored this season from left fullback. Even players like [Thembinkosi] Lorch and [Luvuyo] Memela have put their hands up.
‘But I think if you are a true sportsman and you take out any form of alliances, you probably should be giving it to Percy Tau.’
