New Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink has bolstered his squad by promoting starlet Olwethu Nyembe to the first team, the club has confirmed.

The 18-year-old has now become the first player from the club initiative ‘DreamClub100’ to earn a professional contract.

Nyembe was part of the Cape Town City #DreamClub100 project and was first invited to train with the senior team by coach Benni McCarthy, who was recently released by the club and replaced by Riekerink.

‘Credit to coach Jan Olde Riekerink, who’s already promoted a young Capetonian teenager. Olwethu Nyembe continues to progress. Have a lookout for the young man tonight,’ City’s tweet reads.

The Citizens further confirmed that Riekerink favours promoting young talent, having handed the 14-year-old Mustafa Kapı his professional debut during his time at the helm Turkish outfit Galatasaray back in 2016.

‘City Head Coach @joriekerink is no stranger to promoting youth. At Galatasaray, he gave a 14-year-old Mustafa Kapı his professional debut, the youngest in @GalatasaraySK history,’ City tweeted.
