The South African Football Players’ Union has hit back at claims made by Kaizer Chiefs regarding the contract of goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.

The local footbll fraternity erupted when The Sunday World made a shocking revelation stating that the 21-year-old has been getting a paltry wage of R5,000 a month.

In a bid to claify the situation, Chiefs released a statement claiming that Bvuma was only drafted into the first team due to injuries suffered by goalkeepers Itumeleng Khune and Brilliant Khuzwayo.

Safpu president Tebogo Monyai released a statement revealing that the Soweto giants have not cooperated and as a result they have been forced to make the matter public.

‘We have always wanted to engage Chiefs to sort out this issue regarding Bruce Bvuma, but they don’t want to cooperate,’ he told the Sowetan. ‘So we are forced to go out to the public about this matter

‘Chiefs are claiming that Bvuma’s contract where he earns R5,000 is a junior contract, but if you look at the contract [which is in Sowetan’s possession], it was signed on 28 March 2017.

‘This is the time when they were promoting him to the first team when some of their goalkeepers were injured,’ he alleged. ‘This is in contradiction to what Chiefs said in their statement, that this is a junior contract they signed in 2013-14.

‘Chiefs went out and said where is the proof? So here is the proof that the contract is actually a senior contract. It is signed by [club chairman] Kaizer Motaung,’ Monyai said.

Amakhosi are yet to respond to these claims.
