Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands insists that his side need to have the right mindset in order to turn their fortunes around this season.

The Buccaneers have had a slow start to the new season following a bad run of results, during which they conceded six defeats and four draws and bagged only four wins from their first 14 games across all competitions.

Rhulani Mokwena’s side are currently sitting in ninth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 13 points from 11 matches, trailing log leaders Kaizer Chiefs by 15.

However, Sandilands has urged his side not to work as individuals but to focus on improving their game as a collective.

‘I think the right mindset for us as players at Pirates right now is that it’s about the team, and not about individuals,’ Sandilands told the media.

‘It has to be [like that] at an institution the size of Pirates; it has to be about the badge. So, I think everybody’s just trying to pull their weight.

‘And I know that, the coach mentioned it, the squad has a lot of quality players that can come in and perform, it doesn’t matter who you are.

‘The mindset is that the team needs to win and do well, and obviously, for every player there is a desire to play, [but] the focus is on the team and trying to get the club in a good position.

‘We know we haven’t really started well; we know there’s a lot of stuff about our game that needs to improve. So, the focus even from my side is not an individual one but more of the collective.’
