Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gaston Sirino is confident that he can form a formidable partnership with fellow South American Mauricio Affonso.
The Uruguayan forward become the Brazilians first signing ahead of the new season after Affonso completed his move to Sundowns by signing a five-year deal at Chloorkop.
The 27-year-old has also previously played his football in Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Peru as well as Venezuela in South America and joined the club from Peruvian First Division side Alianza Lima.
Sirino believes that Affonso will be a real asset to Sundowns on a domestic and continental front and he is relishing the chance to link up with the Uruguayan in attack for the Brazilians.
‘We are getting along well already and he hasn’t been here for long,’ Sirino told his club’s official website.
‘I think he is going to do well and I believe we can form a strong partnership together this coming season, for sure.’
‘From what I can see, we could form a dynamic partnership. Affonso has good touches, holds the ball off well and we have been linking up well in training. I think he will adapt to the football here.’
Sirino enjoyed a successful first full season with Sundowns in which he registered nine goals and 21 assists across all competitions, while helping the Brazilians retain the Absa Premiership title.
‘I am excited about this new season. And I think if we are able to get a domestic title we would have done well. It is also important to keep pushing hard in the Caf Champions League, and this is why I am looking forward to travelling with Affonso out of the country for our pre-season.
‘I have spoken to Affonso about how tough it is to play in the Champions League. I told him the teams are physical and play at a very fast pace. So I am excited to see what we can do together,’ he concluded.
Mamelodi Sundowns will begin their Absa Premiership campaign against SuperSport United when the two sides square off at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on 3 August with kick-off set for 3pm.
