Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has explained the thinking behind letting goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune take a free kick in the 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows.
Limbikani Mvaza bagged a brace as Amakhosi succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Clinton Larsen’s side at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday evening. However, Chiefs came agonisingly close to equalising matters with the last kick of the game through an expertly taken free kick by Khune.

When quizzed as to why the shot-stopper took the free kick, the former Free State Stars mentor stated that the national team number one often takes set-pieces at training.
‘Sometimes Khune takes the free kicks and penalties at training; he is very good,’ said Solinas to the media.
‘We tried solutions because in the first half and the second half different players tried to score from set-pieces.

‘We also tried an option with Khune’s technique, which is very good,’ he concluded.
Amakhosi will resume their Caf Confederation Cup duties tonight when they face Zimamoto in the second leg of their preliminary clash, with Chiefs running out 4-0 victors in the first clash, talisman Khama Billiat grabbing a sensational hat-trick.
