Thabang Monare of Orlando Pirates challenges Khama Billiat of Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids says that he is hoping for clear and structured decisions around penalties in Saturday’s Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs as he likened Khama Billiat to an Olympic diver. Watch the coach’s pre-match presser here.

The Soweto giants face off at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon with both sides targeting a big three points in their pursuit of continental football.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, Chiefs sneaked a late winner as Keagan Dolly stepped up to convert from the spot in the 92nd minute after Khama Billiat was adjudged to have been fouled in the box.

Speaking in the build-up to the clash, Davids didn’t hold back on his assessment of previous decisions as he likened Billiat to an Olympic diver.

“The previous derby, when you talk about the penalty we conceded, that’s not a coincidence. You can go back to how many penalties Kaizer Chiefs have won in this derby,” Davids said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“I hope we can really be clear in relation to penalty decisions tomorrow, that there are clear structured decisions that are neutral on both sides.

“You talk about the Billiat incident, but we know Billiat is a player who if you touch him, a small touch, any contact in the box and already he is diving in an Olympic pool.

“So I hope the referees are clear and know these things, knowing [from past experience] that any contact in an around the box, and Orlando Pirates concede another penalty.

“With that we can be clear and know what is coming in relation to, especially Kaizer Chiefs’ front free, and especially with Billiat…”
