Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes his side’s performance was worth three points against Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

The Glamour Boys were forced to settle for a point following their 1-1 draw with the Buccaneers in the Soweto Derby clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The draw sees Amakhosi drop down to seventh place on the Absa Premiership standings with 28 points, while Chiefs remain third with 33 points after 19 matches played so far this season.

Middendorp believes his side should have capitalised on Pirates’ confusion after scoring the opening goal, but lacked the composure to convert their chances in the final.

‘I am disappointed with the result, but I am certainly not disappointed with the way we played. Compliments to my team.

‘We should have had more drive to score that second goal, especially as there was some confusion in the Pirates camp after our goal, and we should have exposed that.

‘We again lost points in a game we should have won,’ he added. ‘The same happened in our recent outings against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City. We were also the better side in those matches, but we were unable to collect the three points.’

Kaizer Chiefs will next be in action on 23 February when they travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to take on Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership, with kick-off set for 3:30pm.
