Kaizer Chiefs forward Mduduzi Shabalala has revealed that his side are fully focused ahead of the Soweto derby and they will play their style of football against Orlando Pirates.
The 19-year-old has been one of Amakhosi’s standout performers since breaking into the first team earlier this year and has already bagged two goals in nine appearances across all competitions.
Shabalala will now be hoping to help Amakhosi secure a fifth straight victory over arch-rivals Pirates when the two sides square off in the latest edition of the Soweto derby this weekend.
The Chiefs forward is relishing the chance to showcase his talent in what could be considered as the biggest derby in South African football as he looks to continue evolving as a footballer.
“To be honest, I have been thinking about it since last week because I knew I have been doing well and the team has been doing well,” Shabalala told his club’s official website.
“For me, it’s a great opportunity, young as I am, to maintain the same focus and consistency and take it into the game.
“We must play the game, not the occasion. The most important thing is to enjoy it and focus on ourselves.
“We have been playing well. It’s just that we haven’t been getting the results that we want. We are focused on the big one that’s coming and I think we can change everything. We just have to play our football.”
