SuperSport United secured a 4-1 victory over Maritzburg United while Bidvest Wits put five past Baroka to claim a 4-0 win in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday evening.
The Clever Boys got off to a lively start and dominated possession on the ball in the opening exchanges of the match.
Baroka came close to opening the scoring in the 17th minute but Nyasha Munetsi guided his effort wide of the upright with only Wits shot-stopper Darren Keet to beat from six-yards out.
However, Wits eventually took the lead in the 30th minute when captain Thulani Hlatshwayo headed the ball into the area after latching onto a free-kick from Daine Klate to pick out Buhle Mkhzwanazi, who headed the ball into the back of the net.
The Students then doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Klate’s volleyed effort found the back of the net, to score his first goal of the season.
The Clever Boys then grabbed their third goal in the 74th minute when Mkhwanazi latched onto a cross from Mhango before headering the ball into the back of the net to make 3-0.
Wits then netted their fourth goal in the 84th minute when Ejike Uzoenyi scored from a tight angle to mark his debut with a goal, to make it 4-0.
However, Gavin Hunt’s side all but sealed their victory in stoppage time when Klate picked out Phakamani Mahlambi, who showed great composure before firing his shot into the bottom corner to make it 5-0.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Maritzburg United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium through a brace by Mandla Masango and goals by Kingston Nkhatha and Jeremy Brockie.
