Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has confirmed that the club will release forward Iqraam Rayners at the end of the month to join SuperSport United.
The 24-year-old attacker signed a pre-contract with Matsatsantsa earlier this year and his current contract with Stellies is set to expire at the end of this month.
This means that Rayners will not be part of the Stellies squad when the Absa Premiership season resumes.
Barker confirmed that Rayners, who played a key role in helping the club gain promotion to the PSL by winning the National First Division title, will part ways with the club to join the three-time league winners.
‘Rayners will be joining SuperSport at the end of June,’ Barker was quoted by the Daily Sun.
‘This was the decision made by the club that his contract is ending this month and he becomes a SuperSport player on 1 July.
‘He’s done well for the club and we are very grateful for his services. He’s now got a new chapter [of his career] to look forward to. It is with our blessings that he joins SuperSport.’
Meanwhile, Barker also confirmed that the club have opted against extending the contract of veteran defender Morgan Gould, whose contract expires on 30 June.
‘Morgan was really good for us, on and off the field,’ said Barker, who has also coached the University of Pretoria and AmaZulu FC in the PSL.
‘A true professional, a legend of South African football, it was a pleasure to have him at our club. We also thank him for his services and we wish him well in his career going forward.’
