Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the arrival of former Barcelona assistant coach and Valencia director of football, Jose Ramon Alexanko, as the club’s new director of academy and scouting.
The announcement that the highly respected 63-year-old Spaniard has joined the Brazilians came on Monday afternoon.
Alexanko enjoyed a fruitful playing career where he won four La Liga titles with Spanish giants Barcelona and also had a spell at Athletic Bilbao.
His playing career ended in 1993 and he moved to Romania to earn his stripes as a coach, before returning to Barcelona in 2000 as an assistant to first-team head coach Carles Rexach.
In 2005 he served as a youth system coordinator at Barca, before moving over to take up the role of director of football at Valencia in 2017.
