Ethiopian Coffee Sports Club have announced that star striker Abubeker Nassir will join Mamelodi Sundowns on trial as they look to complete a move for the Ethiopia international.

The 21-year-old formed part of the Ethiopian national team squad that participated in the Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in Cameroon.

Altough he did not score or assist any goals in the tournament, Nassir was one of his national team’s standout performers during the group stages before they were eliminated.

Nassir has been on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs since last year after he netted a total of 29 goals in 22 games in the Ethiopian Premier League, but Sundowns are now the more likely side to capture his services after confirming he will join the Brazilians on a trial basis.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Coffeee confirmed the star forward has already travelled to South Africa for his trial at Masandawana.

“Ethiopian Coffee’s Ethiopian Premier League star player and all-time goalscorer Abubaker Nasir has travelled to South Africa [to] South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, who are leading the South African league standings,” a club statement read.

“[Nassir] left for South Africa last night after being called up for talks with Ethiopian Coffee [by Sundowns] in the January transfer window to [possibly] sign Abubakar Nassir.

“During the trial period, the club [Sundowns] will be able to pay the full cost of the transit and [his stay in] South Africa. We would like to inform you that our club wishes [Nassir] good luck in the trial and we are keeping an eye out for more information.”
