Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena says he is expecting a guard of honour from Kaizer Chiefs when the two sides meet on May 8 because he knows the values and principles that they carry.

The Brazilians wrapped up their fifth consecutive title with a 0-0 draw against Cape Town City on Wednesday evening, winning the title with four games to spare.

One of those remaining games is against rival Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium and after Downs had provided Chiefs with a guard of honour after their 2015 title win under Stuart Baxter, Mokwena is expecting them to return the favour.

“Kaizer Chiefs are an important club for South African history and the level of football we have.

“We also have to be respectful when we speak about the club particularly because Ntate Kaizer Motaung is one of the major reasons why we have the NSL and the PSL.

“But I think as a professional club and I will go back when they won the league title we did give a guard of honour I remember they were coached by Stuart Baxter if not mistake and Sundowns did give a guard of honour.

“I do expect because of what I know about the club and the people in the club the values and the principles that they carry and particularly from the sportsmanship sort of perspective.

“I would expect that they will do that, but of course, in the end, it’s not a must, and therefore if they do it or they don’t it, it shouldn’t matter,” said Mokwena.
