Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a goalless draw with Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

The Brazilians made four changes to the team that conceded their first league defeat to Kaizer Chiefs this past Sunday as Rushine de Reuck, Aubrey Modiba, Siphelele Mkhulise and Kermit Erasmus were named in the starting lineup.

Sundowns got off to a good start, showing their intent early on as Kermit Erasmus exerted control in the box before playing an inviting ball into the area flashing across the face of goal, but Mkhulise failed to slot the ball home.

Arrows had their own chance in the 12th minute when Seth Parusnath played a ball into the box, which forced Mosa Lebusa to chest the ball out for a corner although it could have ended in the back of the net.

Knox Mutizwa should’ve handed Arrows the lead just before the break when he was released through on goal by an excellent ball from Gumede, but the attacker failed to trouble Denis Onyango with his tame effort as the game went into half time locked at 0-0.

Sundowns began the second half on the attack with Modiba firing his powerful effort from just outside the box towards goal, but the Arrows keeper was on hand to make the save.

Arrows had a chance of their own two minutes later when Pule Mmodi forced Onyango to react quickly to make the save.

Sundowns came close to taking the lead in the 57th minute when Zwane found space in the final third before unleashing an effort at goal, but the attacker couldn’t bypass Sifiso Mlungwana between the sticks for Arrows.

The Brazilians opted for fresh legs just before the hour mark as Andile Jali made way for Gift Motupa, before bringing on Promise Mkhuma and Sibusiso Vilakazi for Zwane and Erasmus, respectively, in the 84th minute.

Neither side could find the winning goal in the closing stages and were forced to settle for a point each.
