Gaston Sirino and Peter Shalulile fired Mamelodi Sundowns to a 2-0 win over Baroka taking the Brazilians five points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership log.
Downs surprisingly made no changes after their Caf Champions League win over Al-Hilal Omdurman, while Elvis Chipezeze got the nod ahead of Oscarine Masuluke in the Baroka goal as the only change.
Bakgaga created the first chance with 18 minutes gone from a counter-attack after Thamsanqa Masiya picked out Evidence Makgopa, who could only fire straight at Denis Onyango from close range.
The defending league champions then had a chance of their own as Sirino found Shalulile with a square pass, but the Namibian was denied by a brilliant save from Chipezeze.
Despite Mash Mphahlele’s long-range effort, kept out by Denis Onyango, the side went into the break level.
After a slow opening 10 minutes to the second stanza, the game finally came to life as Sirino was put through on goal by Kermit Erasmus. He made no mistake with his finish to hand Downs the lead with 63 minutes played.
The Brazilians quickly went 2-0 up five minutes later after Shalulile had an easy tap-in from a rebound after Chipezeze parried Erasmus’ shot on his path.
Erasmus was unfortunate not to make it 3-0 for Sundowns in the 72nd minute with a first-time strike after a low cross from Lebogang Maboe.
The Brazilians managed to see out the rest of the game keeping their clean sheet intact and walking away with the three points.
