Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka

After playing just 16 times since arriving at the club at the start of last season, George Maluleka reportedly looks set to depart Chloorkop this month in search of game time.

The midfielder famously left Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2019/20 season to join the Brazilians on a free transfer after signing a pre-contract months before.

Things, however, did not work out as the Maluleka would have hoped and the 33-year-old is now looking for a way out of the club.

According to SoccerLaduma, a number of clubs have shown interest in the midfielder, but his salary could prove to be a problem with clubs unlikely to match the deal he is on at Downs.

Maluleka made just 14 appearances in his debut season in 2020/21, despite the club playing 45 matches across all competitions. Things have only gotten worse for him this season as he has only featured in two games, totalling a mere 15 minutes, taking his total to 16 games played out of the 70 matches Downs had played since his arrival.

It is believed that due to the lack of playing time Maluleka has also missed out on several financial bonuses which will likely not please a player who is already upset.

With the Brazilians blessed with several quality central midfielders it looks as though a move away for Maluleka is his only option if he does want game time.
