Mamelodi Sundowns have announced that the team has returned to training and will be holding a seven-day training camp in Rustenburg.

The Brazilians will spend the next seven days in the North West province after complying with all stringent Covid-19 return-to-play protocols to allow them back on the field.

The nine-time champions will be based at the Royal Marang Hotel and will use its sports facilities to get the players fit and ready for the restart of the 2019-20 Premier Soccer League season.

The league campaign is expected to be completed by the end of August after the season was suspended in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sundowns confirmed the news on their official website:

‘Mamelodi Sundowns have resumed training, this after more than 100 days after the PSL had suspended the 2019/20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the nationwide lockdown.

‘The Brazilians arrived at the Royal Marang Sports Complex in Rustenburg to prepare for the resumption of the 2019/20 season.

‘Sundowns had complied with all the stringent COVID-19 Return to Play Protocols and had submitted the same to the PSL before the club was given the green light to commence training.

‘Having to move the team away from the epicentre of the coronavirus was critical for the Brazilians and the North West province was an easy decision, with Mosimane and his technical team being no strangers to Rustenburg having hosted several pre-season training camps here in the past. The venue is one of the best in South Africa and was used by the England team during the FIFA World Cup in 2010. With the chilly weather gripping Gauteng, Rustenberg welcomes the Brazilians with an average temperature of 22°C for the next 7 days and provides ideal training conditions, as the technical team looks to get the players match fit ahead and ready for the resumption of the PSL.’
