Mamelodi Sundowns star Mothobi Mvala is reportedly in hot water with the club following allegations of gender-based violence made against him over December.
The midfielder has formed an integral part of the Brazilians’ midfield since signing from Highlands Park, but could face a massive backlash from the club as they investigate an alleged gender-based violence case brought against him by his partner.
According to SoccerLaduma, the Bafana Bafana midfielder’s partner, Palesa Botipe, opened the case in December with Mvala set to appear in court on 12 January.
According to the report, not only are the authorities currently investigating the matter but so are Mamelodi Sundowns with the Brazilians looking to get to the bottom of the matter and Mvala set to face the music if found guilty.
“The matter is being investigated by the club. The player has been in the Free State these past few days and was seen attending one of the local football tournaments as a guest, but on Saturday he was called by the club enquiring about the allegations against him. GBV is serious and it is pleasing to see that the club doesn’t take it lightly,” said the source.
Sundowns have taken action in such cases in the past with the club terminating the contract of Siyabonga Zulu in 2019, after the mother of his child demanded from the club that the footballer pay maintenance for their son.
