SuperSport United have confirmed the departure of three first-team members, with former Orlando Pirates winger Thabo Qalinge the biggest name after failing to fire at the club.
The 28-year-old player joined Matsatsantsa on a free transfer from Orlando Pirates at the beginning of the current season, signing a one-year deal. He however failed to make any impact as he struggled to break into Kaitano Tembo’s team, making only five appearances all season, and was released when his contract expired.
With the financial impact of coronavirus starting to grip South African clubs, SuperSport have moved to offload some of their expenses with the release of Qalinge along with Thakasani Mbanjwa and Thato Lesoma.
SuperSport released the following statement on Friday evening:
‘We would like to confirm the departure of Thabo Qalinge, Thakasani Mbanjwa and Thato Lesoma.
‘We thank them for their contributions and wish them well with their future endeavours.’
Lesoma and Mbanjwa, both promising goalkeepers, have left SuperSport without making a single appearance for the team this season.
