Bradley Grobler had a late penalty saved by Daniel Akpeyi as Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United played to a 1-1 draw in their Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Ernst Middendorp’s side came into this encounter off the back of two consecutive wins in the league after beating Highlands Park and Black Leopards respectively.

Meanwhile, Kaitano Tembo’s chargers secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in their previous league encounter before crashing out of the MTN8 following their defeat to Bidvest Wits.
 
Amakhosi have a good record against SuperSport, having won two of their last four encounters against United.
 
Amakhosi got off to a good start showed their intent during the early exchanges of the first half.

Chiefs broke the deadlock in the 14th minute when Samir Nurkovic’s cross deflected over Ronwen William and into the back of the net.

The home side nearly drew the game level in the 25th minute when Grant Kekana’s header crashed against the woodwork.

Amakhosi continued to press forward in the hope of extending their lead while United were comfortable enough to sit back and soak up the pressure.

Teboho Mokoena came close to equalising in the 41st minute after he latched on to a ball from Evans Rusike, but the midfielder failed to hit the target from close range.

The game went into the half time interval 1-0 in favour of Chiefs.

Bradley Grobler should have equalised for SuperSport early in the second half but the striker headed his effort straight into the hands of Daniel Akpeyi.

Nurkovic came close to doubled his sides lead when he struck the outside of the post after being played through by Khama Billiat.

Nhlapo came to his sides rescue when he made a brilliant last-ditch challenge to deny Dumisani Zuma a goalscoring opportunity after he was played through on goal by Nurkovic.

United’s persistence paid off as they leveled matters in the 83rd minute when Rusike played a lovely through ball to Grobler, who calmly slotted the ball past Akpeyi.

Matsatsantsa has a chance to put the game to bed in stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty. Grobler stepped up but Akpeyi did well to guess the right way to made the save.

Both sides pressed forward in the closing stages of the game in search of the winning goal but were forced to settle for a point each at the FMB Stadium.
