SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic were forced to share the spoils after playing out to a goalless draw at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
SuperSport come into the clash off the back of a 2-2 draw with Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend and currently occupy fifth in the Absa Premiership standing.
Meanwhile, Bloem Celtic find themselves in 12th place on the table following their 1-1 draw with Baroka at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The match got off to a slow start with neither side creating any clear-cut opportunities in front of goal in the opening 20 minutes of the match.
SuperSport had their first chance of the match in the 20th minute when Thabo Mnyamane fired his free-kick towards goal, but his effort failed to trouble Celtic Patrick Tignyemb.
Mnyamane once again came close scoring when he unleashed a shot at goal, forcing Tignyemb into a fine save to deny the midfielder. before Mpho Maruping went close at the other end for Celtic.
At the other end, Celtic had a chance of their own when Lyle Lakay drilled in a low cross to Ayanda Dlamini, but he was unable to turn the ball into the back of the net.
SuperSport came out the better side in the second half as Thuso Phala unleashed at goal from 12 yards out, however the striker skewed his effort wide of the target.
Siwelele came close to breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute when Goodman Dlamini was played through on goal, but Ronwin Williams denied the midfielder’s low effort.
Tignyemb came to his side’s rescue in the 82nd minute when he produced a fine save to deny Mnyamane’s effort from 12-yards out.
Neither side could find the winning goal in the closing stages of the match as the match ended in a goalless draw at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
