SuperSport United came from a goal down to beat Orlando Pirates with six second-half goals at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
The Tshwane outfit kept their unbeaten run alive despite going behind to Tendai Ndoro’s 43rd minute strike as the rain came down in Nelspruit.
The home side were unlucky to go behind in the first half after displaying enough and creating as many chances as their guests from Soweto before Ndoro stretched his lead at the top of the league’s scoring chart.
Matsatsantsa equalled matters in the 51st minute when veteran midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane fired past Brighton Mhlongo. ‘Yeye’ combined in a slick one-two with Jeremy Brockie before shooting from a tight angle strongly enough to beat Mhlongo.
Three minutes later Michael Boxall equalised from point-blank range after a cross come shot from Letsholonyane. With the crowd now in full voice SuperSport made it three as Mhlongo failed to clear a cross from danger leaving Boxall to add his second with a tap home again from close range.
In the 60th minute Thuso Phala punished Pirates after Mhlongo once again palmed the ball back into danger. Phala made no mistake as he buried his chance from the edge of the area.
Bradley Grobler, himself enjoying a fantastic night, got onto the scoresheet after Phala’s pinpoint cross and a slip from the defender saw him head past Mhlongo with ease.
In the 87th minute confusion rained as the referee initially showed Mhlongo a straight red for a foul on Brockie before reversing his decision, incorrectly, to a yellow for Happy Jele and a penalty, which Brockie put away for SuperSport’s sixth goal.
Drama followed two minutes later when SuperSport goalkeeper Ronwen Williams denied Ndoro a brace from the penalty spot to confirm Pirates to their joint-worst defeat in their 79 history.
