Evans Rusike netted the only goal as SuperSport United ran out 1-0 victors against early log leaders Bidvest Wits in their Absa Premiership clash on Saturday night.
Gavin Hunt’s men hoped to maintain their excellent record to the start of the season after victories from their opening three league matches against Free State Stars (3-0), Kaizer Chiefs (3-1) and Orlando Pirates (1-0).
Kaitano Tembo’s side were aiming to continue their upward trend after losing their opening league clash of the season to Cape Town City (1-0) and winning their following PSL clash against AmaZulu (1-0).
Hunt’s side enjoyed more possession in the opening exchanges but struggled to create any chances in the final third with trio Haashim Domingo, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Mxolisi Machupu not on the same page.

Domingo should have put his side ahead on the half-hour mark, but his volley went over the crossbar from inside the area.
Wits’ new acquisitions Deon Hotto and Macuphu proved a threat to the SuperSport defence with their menacing runs; however, they also could not deliver the end product.
SuperSport had a great opportunity to go ahead just before the half-time break with virtually their first chance of the game but Aubrey Modiba blazed his effort over the crossbar from just inside the area.

Hunt made the first change of the game in the second half with Hotto making way for former Ajax Cape Town man Bantu Mzwakali.
The second half continued in a similar vein to that of the first, with little goalmouth action.
SuperSport broke the deadlock when defender Onismor Bhasera’s goalbound effort was deflected into the path of Rusike, who made no mistake from his rebound, volleying past the hapless Darren Keet.

Hunt opted for the final roll of the dice as he threw on Scottish striker Simon Murray with eight minutes remaining, but it proved too little, too late as SuperSport held on for victory.
