SuperSport United returned to winning ways after thrashing Bloemfontein Celtic 4-2 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
Celtic came out with more intent and should’ve opened the scoring after seven minutes, but Lucky Baloyi failed to beat Reyaad Pieterse as he steered his effort wide of the mark.
The visiting side eventually opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Jacky Motshegwa capitalised on a defensive error by SuperSport before finding the back of the net, 1-0.
However, Matsatsantsa restored parity after 30 minutes as Mogakolodi Ngele made the most of a poor clearance by Celtic to make it 1-1.
Evans Rusike then put SuperSport ahead six minutes before the half-time break when he slotted the ball into the net from close range.
Lorenzo Gordinho should’ve levelled matters 10 minutes into the second half, but the defender steered his header over the target.
Celtic then found an equalising goal after 60 minutes when Ndumiso Mabena pounced on to an error from Denwin Farmer before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net.
The home side then took the lead in the 74th minute after Mokoena directed his cross towards Aubrey Modiba, who headed the ball past Celtic keeper Patrick Tignyemb.
SuperSport all but sealed the win with seven minutes to play when Mokoena unleashed a strike from outside of the area to find the net, leaving the scoreboard on 4-2.
Eric Tinkler’s side held on to their 4-2 lead over Celtic until the final whistle to secure all three points at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
