SuperSport United defender Bongani Khumalo has joined the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by donating his full salary to a charity aimed at feeding at least 300 families.
The 33-year-old, along with footballers around the world, has been stuck at home and forced off the field due to the impact of Covid-19.
While the virus is expected to seriously impact the financial side of football in the country, Khumalo decided to put others before himself by doing everything he can in his personal capacity.
‘I have decided to donate my full salary to buy food parcels [for the needy] and I am doing this from the bottom of my heart,’ Khumalo told City Press.
‘I am in a fortunate position to do this and I hope to reach out to 300 families during this difficult time, while also paying homage to Eswatini, where my father was born.
‘I am doing this in my personal capacity; this is not for personal glory.’
Although Khumalo was born in Eswatini, he grew up in the Mamelodi area and will also be donating to help families living there.
While Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and other clubs have started doing their bit in helping the community, Khumalo is one of the first players who have looked to assist in their personal capacity.
