SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo believes Grant Kekana did well to keep Khama Billiat quiet at the Mbombela Stadium on Friday evening.
United missed the chance to move up to third place in the Absa Premiership standings after playing out to a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs.
Tembo explained that he was forced into substituting Siyabonga Nhlapo and move Kekana to right back as he was already on a yellow card.
‘Siya [Siyabonga Nhlapo] got a yellow card and knowing that he was playing against Khama Billiat, he was going to run at him and probably he was going to get another yellow card. So I took him off [he was replaced by Bongani Khumalo on the hour-mark] and put Grant Kekana at right back. Grant did well, he kept Billiat quiet, he never really played after that,’ Tembo told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘I brought [Jamie] Webber to try and stabilise the midfield because ‘Tebza’ [Teboho Mokoena] was getting tired. Webber did well when he came on [with ten minutes remaining], he was very good on the ball. He made us play a little bit forward.
‘George [Lebese], when he came on it was too late [with five minutes remaining], he never really got on the ball because the intensity of the game was a little bit difficult for him. But it was a good performance from the guys, I’m really proud of them,’ he concluded.
