Barcelona goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen says he enjoyed the experience of playing in the Nelson Mandela Centenary Cup against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

The Spanish giants secured a 3-1 victory over the Brazilians at the FNB Stadium after goals from Ousmane Dembele, Luis Suarez and Andre Gomes cancelled out Sibusiso Vilakazi’s strike in the 76th minute.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper says he was delighted to have won the game while adding that he enjoyed the ambience and atmosphere of playing in South Africa for the first time.

‘I need to say it was a super-excited experience for everyone of us and I’m happy that we won the match in the end,’ Ter Stegen told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘It was a good experience. It was good to get a victory. It’s always good if you can get a victory and today was so important for the fans in the end.

‘It wasn’t just about the match. It was about everything. The ambience, atmosphere. Seeing the people here, I’m happy to be here.

‘It was amazing because, in the end, they supported both teams in the same way. I think this is what it should be in this type of a match.’

Barcelona will now turn their attention back to the La Liga when they welcome Real Sociedad to the Camp Nou on Sunday, with kick-off set for 8.45pm.
