The Premier Soccer League has awarded Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala with the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month for March.

The dreadlocked-midfielder scooped the monthly award for his spectacular effort in the Amakhosi’s 3-1 victory against Free State Stars in February at the FNB Stadium.

Upon receiving the award, the former Bafana Bafana international thanked all those who took the time to vote for him on the PSL’s official website.

‘I would like to thank the fans for voting for me. I always put a lot of work into set plays,’ Tshabalala said after he picked up his award.

The 32-year-old also alluded to his side’s improving league form, which has seen them embark on an unbeaten streak of ten consecutive games, to put them in a position to challenge for league honours.

Tshabalala, however, insisted that Steve Komphela’s charges are solely focused on their own results in a bid to clinch their first league title since the 2014-15 campaign.

‘We are a big team, yes we are a work in progress and we cannot obviously control what other people say,’ he added.

‘We have had a good run, but we haven’t won anything. We need to keep working hard.’

The former Free State Stars man also suggested that the rise of the likes of Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City could prove beneficial to ending the lockdown on dominance of the league by Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

‘I believe that it is good for SA football that we no longer have two or three Giants. Anybody can win the league.’

‘I am happy with my personal contribution this season, but obviously I always want to improve on my performances,’ he concluded.
